History

Byakko

Imaichi Hotoku Ninomiya Jinja was founded in 1899 (Meiji 32) to enshrine Ninomiya Sontoku, the revered agricultural reformer and advocate of the Hotoku philosophy. The principal deity is Ninomiya Sontoku himself, with his son Ninomiya Sonko and his leading disciple Tomita Koukei as secondary deities. The former shrine rank was prefectural shrine (kensha). The Hotoku teachings of diligence, frugality, self-discipline, and sharing continue to resonate widely today. A bronze statue of Sontoku stands within the precincts, inspiring visitors with a spirit of perseverance.
