History
Ishite-ji is located in Ishite, Matsuyama, and is renowned as the 51st temple of the Shikoku 88 Sacred Temples pilgrimage route. Its founding dates back long ago, and it is said to have deep connections with both Gyoki Bodhisattva and Kobo Daishi Kukai. The place name Ishite derives from a legend of a child born while grasping a stone, lending it a mystical history. The temple houses numerous National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, making it extremely valuable culturally. Within its grounds are various sacred sites, and visitors receive profound blessings according to their individual wishes. As an important pillar of the Shikoku pilgrimage route, it has long been a source of spiritual support for many people.
