History

Byakko

Tochigi Jinja is the tutelary deity enshrined in the center of Tochigi city. During the Edo period, it walked together with the development of Tochigi-juku, which flourished through the water transport of the Aibakawa River, and gathered the faith of merchants and craftspeople. It is particularly revered by the people of the local shopping district as a deity for prosperous business. Since the Meiji era, it has continued to watch over the development of Tochigi town and then Tochigi city, and is still beloved by many people as the local tutelary deity. Through the year, various festivals are held, and it also serves a central role in the community, truly a "deity of the town."
