As the first shrine of Dewa Province, this is a prestigious great shrine that has been revered by the people of the Tohoku region since ancient times. It enshrines Omonoimi no Okami, the divine spirit of Mount Chokai, and has prospered as a sacred site of mountain worship. The Fukiura area has been blessed with pure spring water flowing from Mount Chokai and has been regarded as sacred since antiquity. The shrine received fervent reverence from the imperial court and was positioned as an important shrine for praying for national stability and abundant harvests. In the grounds overlooking the magnificent Mount Chokai, one can deeply sense the greatness of nature and the divine protection of the gods.
