History

Byakko

An ancient shrine with a lineage tracing to the Heian period under Emperor Kanmu, serving as a protective deity of Heian-kyo. Particularly famous as the god of healthy legs and feet, with many boar statues enshrined in the grounds. With Wakenoshipayashiro Kiyomaro as the principal deity, many visit to revere his loyalty and integrity. Amulets for leg and foot health are especially popular, receiving worship from athletes to the elderly. There is also a saying that rubbing a boar's nose will grant one's wish.
