Yamada Tenmangu is a Tenmangu shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of scholarship. Founded during the Kanbun period, it is counted among Nagoya's three great Tenjin shrines and is a shrine of high standing. It is particularly renowned for its blessings of academic success, and during examination season, numerous students and parents visit to pray for success. Within the shrine grounds stands a sacred stone called "Yorisoi-ishi," famous for matchmaking blessings, attracting many visitors seeking success in love. It is also popular for wealth advancement, and visitors seeking lottery winnings may be seen here as well. Through the wisdom and compassionate divine virtue of Sugawara no Michizane, this warm shrine fulfills a variety of wishes.
