Takaō-san Yakuōin is a temple of the Shingon Chisan school enshrined on Mount Takaō in Hachiōji. Formally known as Yakuōin Yūkiji, it is an ancient temple said to have been founded during the Nara period. Enshrining Iizuna Daizongen as its principal image, it is also known as a sacred site of Shugendō practice. Mount Takaō is an easily accessible spiritual mountain from the city center, attracting visitors throughout the year, both pilgrims and hikers. Within the natural abundance of the mountain, it is a remarkable sacred site where both body and mind are purified.
