History

Byakko

Asahi Jinja has been revered as the tutelary shrine of the Roppongi area since around 940 CE during the Tengyō era. The shrine enshrines five deities: Ukano-mitama-no-kami, Ichikishimahime-no-kami, Ookuninushi-no-kami, Oyama-tsumi-no-kami, and Sugawara-no-kami. Despite its location in the internationally vibrant district of Roppongi, this shrine has remained deeply rooted in the local community as a neighborhood protector throughout the centuries. The grand festival is held annually on September 22nd. The serene precincts offer visitors a peaceful respite from the urban bustle surrounding them.
