Achihayao Shrine is a shikinaisha listed in the Engishiki, located in Tsurumi, Osaka. According to shrine tradition, the principal deity Ajisukitakahikone descended to this land in Settsu province and taught the people agriculture. The shrine traces its founding to 668 CE, when a Korean monk attempted to steal the sacred sword Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi; thwarted by a storm, he cast the sword into a river mouth, where locals retrieved it and temporarily enshrined it here before it was returned to Atsuta Shrine. Known as Yaturugi Shrine during the Edo period, the site was identified as the ancient Achihayao Shrine by scholar Namikawa Seiho in the mid-Edo period. The shrine holds the former rank of gosha and features a thousand-year-old camphor tree on its grounds.
