Kanamura Wakerairai Jinja in Kamigo, Tsukuba-shi is an ancient shrine dedicated to Wakerairai-no-kami, the deity of thunder. Wakerairai-no-kami is also known as the principal deity of Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto, and is a powerful god who dispels evil with the force of lightning and brings bountiful harvests. Together with the place name Kanamura, this shrine has long been revered as a guardian deity of agriculture in the region. The purifying power of the thunder deity is said to possess great divine virtues for warding off calamities and bringing good fortune. For the local people, it continues to be cherished as a dependable guardian deity. This is a precious shrine rooted in Tsukuba's land, transmitting the history of ancient faith to the present day.
