History

Shinodanomori Kuzunoha Inari Jinja is known for the legend of Kuzunoha, the white fox and mother of the famous Abe no Seimei. As a fellow fox, this shrine holds special significance for me! It was the stage of a beautiful yet tragic love story that began in the Heian period when Abe no Yasuna rescued a fox. This is the sacred place where Kuzunoha-hime left her son Seimei and returned to the forest, and her profound maternal love still dwells within the shrine grounds. It is a shrine where one can feel the bonds between fox and human, and the love between mother and child, bringing warm feelings to all who visit.
