History

Byakko

Tsukuba-san Jinja is a venerable shrine situated at the summit of Tsukuba-san, a renowned peak in the Kanto region. Deities are enshrined on each of the two peaks—Mount Odai and Mount Meai—and it is visited by people from across the nation seeking the powerful blessings of this deity of matchmaking and romantic bonds. This historically significant mountain is mentioned in the Kojiki and the Man'yoshu anthology, and is celebrated as "Fuji in the west, Tsukuba in the east" for its beautiful appearance. The entire mountain is regarded as a sacred body, and the act of climbing itself constitutes a religious practice in this sacred place. Throughout the seasons, visitors are embraced by beautiful nature, with autumn foliage being particularly spectacular. As the deity of marital harmony and romantic bonds, many couples visit to pledge their love at this romantic shrine.
