Kyouo-ji

Kyooji Temple, formally known as Daijosan Kyooji, is a Nichiren Buddhist temple located in Haramachi, Shinjuku, Tokyo. Founded in the early Edo period in the Ushigome area, the temple was granted land by the shogunate and formed a temple district along with neighboring temples, serving as a cultural hub of the Ushigome region. Unusually for a Nichiren temple, it houses a Koshin-do hall, representing a unique fusion of Koshin folk belief and Nichiren Buddhism. The temple also enshrines Kishimojin, attracting worshippers praying for safe childbirth and child-rearing. A statue of Daikokuten has been designated a cultural property by Shinjuku Ward.
