History

Byakko

Yoshino Jingu was founded by Emperor Meiji as a shrine dedicated to Emperor Go-Daigo. It stands majestically on the middle slopes of Yoshino Mountain, an important shrine that speaks to the history of the Northern and Southern Courts period. Emperor Go-Daigo carried out the Kenmu Restoration and pursued the ideal of direct imperial rule. He established the Southern Court in Yoshino, and this shrine was founded to honor his wish for the restoration of the nation in this place. In spring it is surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms, and in autumn the fall colors are magnificent. Throughout the four seasons it soothes the hearts of worshippers, truly a sacred place enveloped in the spiritual essence of Yoshino Mountain.
