Tsukimioka Hachiman Shrine

This shrine in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is said to have existed since at least the mid-11th century, as Minamoto no Yoshiie is recorded to have prayed here for victory during his northern campaign. Originally located in what is now Hachiman Park, the shrine was relocated during land readjustment, with stone Koshin monuments and a Fujizuka also transferred to the new site. A notable relic is the Buddhist bronze gong (waniguchi) hanging beneath the shrine eaves — confiscated during the Meiji-era separation of Buddhism and Shinto, it was discovered in Hokkaido in 1932 and re-dedicated to the shrine.
