History

Byakko

Sakurada Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded in the late Heian period. It is told that Minamoto no Yoshiie prayed for victory during his campaign in Oshu. During the Edo period, it was known as the tutelary shrine of Sakurada Village and also as a shrine with connections to the Ako Ronin. It is said that Oishi Kuranosuke and others, famous from the Chushingura, sought prayers for victory here. Since the Meiji period, it has continued to be cherished as a guardian deity of the Azabu area as it developed. While located in the heart of the city, its serene grounds heal the hearts of busy modern people and serve as a precious place transmitting the loyalty and sincerity of warriors to the present day.
