History

Byakko

Nyonindo is a sacred place where women offered their prayers as the final point of pilgrimage during the era when women were forbidden from entering Koyasan. Here, women gazed from afar upon the Okunoin of Koyasan and deepened their faith in Kobo Daishi. Today it continues to be visited by many worshippers as a sacred site for women's protection and the fulfillment of wishes. The deep love of the women who once prayed at the mountain's entrance for the safety of their sons and husbands still breathes in this place.
