History

Byakko

Nerima Ootori Shrine, enshrined in Toyotama-kita, Nerima Ward, Tokyo, worships Yamato Takeru no Mikoto and has been affectionately known as Otori-sama for centuries. Founded in 1645, during the early Edo period, it has carried forward the tradition of the Tori no Ichi market held each November. On the day of the rooster, the precinct fills with visitors seeking rakes as symbols of sweeping in good fortune, their voices joined in prayers for prosperous business. Nestled quietly in a residential neighborhood for most of the year, the shrine serves as a cherished spiritual anchor and living testament to Nerima's local history.
