History
Tabata Hachiman Jinja is a venerable shrine in Kita Ward, Tokyo, said to have received prayers for victory from Minamoto no Yoritomo during his Mutsu campaign in the Kamakura period. Revered as Hachiman, a deity of martial prowess and longevity, it flourished as the tutelary shrine of Tabata Village during the Edo period. In the Tabata area where many writers and artists resided, it also became cherished as a patron deity for creative endeavors.
