History

Byakko

Aichi-ken Gokoku Jinja, enshrined in the Sannomaru area of Nagoya Castle, is a shrine that honors the war dead from Aichi Prefecture. As a sacred place where the spirits of those who gave their precious lives for the nation in wars since the Meiji period rest quietly, it receives the prayers and wishes for peace from many people who come to pay their respects. Due to its location adjacent to Nagoya Castle, it is visited by many tourists and has become an important place for conveying the memory of war and the preciousness of peace. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom beautifully, comforting the hearts of visitors as flowers to soothe the spirits of the war dead. It plays a vital role as a place to express gratitude for today's peaceful society and to renew one's commitment never to repeat war.
