Seigan-ji is a Jodo-shu (Pure Land) temple located in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture. Its mountain name is Hofugisan and the principal object of worship is Amida Nyorai. The temple was founded by Utsunomiya Yoritsuna with Kyokurensha Gion as the founding priest. It is particularly renowned for an iron stupa said to have been cast and dedicated by Utsunomiya Sadatsuna in memory of his late mother. This iron stupa has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, making it one of the temples most treasured artifacts. Under the protection of Amida Nyorai, the temple has long gathered the faith of local people.
