History

Byakko

Yakiyamaji is a sacred temple that has long been transmitted deep in the mountains of Kamiyama-chō. While there are various theories about the origin of its name, it is known as a sacred place that speaks of the severity of ascetic practice, and many ascetic monks and visitors have climbed the steep mountain path to reach it across the ages. Within the temple grounds enveloped by the spiritual energy of the mountains, a pure air drifts as if burning away worldly attachments and defilements. This temple, built deep within the mountains, is a special place where one can simultaneously feel both the severity and beauty of nature. The sense of accomplishment upon reaching the destination after walking the long approach path, and the time of prayer enveloped in the mountain's stillness, surely bring deep spiritual awakening to one's heart.
