History
Hanazono Jinja is an oasis-like shrine enshrined in Shinjuku's bustling entertainment district. It is said to have been enshrined in this location during the early Edo period, around the Kan'ei era, and enshrines deities including Ukanomitama no Mikoto. A historic shrine that has walked alongside Shinjuku's development, it is beloved by many people as a deity of prosperous business and artistic advancement. In particular, the Tori no Ichi festival held every autumn is famous as one of the three great Tori festivals of Edo, drawing large crowds of worshippers. Additionally, various artistic events are held within the grounds, and it is also cherished as a shrine of the performing arts. Despite being located in the heart of the major city of Shinjuku, it continues to maintain a sacred atmosphere and is a precious shrine.
