About
History
Butsugi-ji is a historic temple known as the 42nd station of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage. Located in the mountainous areas of Mima-cho, Uwajima City, it is a serene sacred site blessed with a rich natural environment. As a holy place where Kobo Daishi practiced asceticism, it has been visited since ancient times by many pilgrims seeking inner peace. Despite its location in a remote mountain area, it possesses an atmosphere that warmly welcomes visitors, and is cherished as a temple of special significance along the Shikoku pilgrimage route. In the quiet sanctuary surrounded by stillness, one can step away from the clamor of daily life and peacefully compose one's spirit—truly a place of healing for the heart.
