About
History
I shall tell you of Mamada Hachiman-gu, a sacred shrine with approximately 1300 years of venerable history. This hallowed ground has long been revered by warriors, with the renowned Fujiwara no Hidesato said to have prayed for victory in the Heian period, and Minamoto no Yoritomo following suit in the Kamakura era. The divine virtues of Hachiman extend far beyond martial success, encompassing protection throughout all stages of human life as a deity of fortune and guidance. Particularly renowned for healing miracles, ancient legends speak of countless recoveries, and even today, believers continue to report miraculous healings after worship. Within the shrine precincts stands Hachiryu Shrine, dedicated to the eight great dragon kings who blessed Buddha's birth with sacred waters. The annual "Jagamaita" festival on May 5th, designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, draws over 10,000 visitors who pray for abundant harvests and protection from epidemics. This spiritually powerful shrine offers blessings for exorcism, directional purification, financial prosperity, safe childbirth, and all manner of human aspirations, serving as a beacon of hope and divine protection.
