History
Susaki Shrine is located on the east bank of the Horikawa River in Sakae, Naka Ward, Nagoya City, and holds the former status of a village shrine (kyosha). Known during the Edo period as "Hiroi Tenno" and "Gozu Tenno," it was a central focus of Gion faith in the region. The Susaki Tenno Festival, held in its honor, was celebrated alongside the Nagoya Toshogu Procession Festival as one of the two great festivals of Nagoya castle town, renowned across the domain for its grandeur. Standing in the heart of the Sakae district since the Meiji era, the shrine has continued to welcome visitors as a guardian of the city through its modern development.
