History

Byakko

Tsukido Jinja is an ancient shrine located in Kudan Kita, Chiyoda Ward, with Amatsu Hiko Fire Nini Nigi no Mikoto as its principal deity. It is also known for enshrining Taira no Masakado and has been positioned as an important shrine guarding the southwest, or demonic gate, of Edo Castle. During the Edo period, it received fervent reverence from the Tokugawa family as a guardian shrine of Edo Castle, and remains known as a shrine of high standing due to its proximity to the Imperial Palace. Having survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and wartime destruction, Tsukido Jinja standing in its present location is a venerable shrine that has walked alongside Tokyo's history.
