History

Byakko

Kasai Jinja is enshrined in Higashi-Kanamachi, Katsushika Ward, and has been revered since ancient times as the chief tutelary shrine of the Kasai region. According to tradition, it was founded in the late Heian period and enshrines Futsunushi no Kami as its principal deity, gathering reverence as a kami of military prowess and protection from evil. It has served as the tutelary shrine of Kasai no Mikuriya and has continued to watch over the development of this region throughout history. During the Edo period, it was venerated by the Tokugawa family and was known affectionately to the common people as "Kasai no Myojin-sama." Today, it remains a central shrine of the community, visited by many worshippers at important life milestones such as New Year visits, Shichi-Go-San celebrations, and blessing ceremonies. The grounds are verdant and maintain a serene atmosphere, preserving a sacred space for quiet and peaceful worship.
