Mishiodono Jinja is a subsidiary shrine of the Naiku (Inner Shrine) of Ise Jingu, located in Futamichi-Sho, Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It is the sole shrine equipped with facilities for preparing the sacred hardened salt (katashio) essential to Jingu ceremonies. Each October, the Mishioyaki Shinto rite is performed, during which seawater from Futami Bay is refined into katashio and dedicated to the Grand Shrine. This salt has long been revered for its purifying and protective properties. Though small, it plays an indispensable role in sustaining the rituals of Ise Jingu.
