Sesonji is a temple of the Soto sect located in Hiso, Oyodo Town, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, bearing the mountain name Ryojusan. The principal image is Amida Nyorai (Hoko Kusunoki-zo). Formerly known as Hisoji, the temple once boasted a grand monastic complex that was later rebuilt on a smaller scale during the Edo period. The former temple grounds were designated a National Historic Site as Hisodera Ruins in 1927. As the 7th pilgrimage site of the Prince Shotoku sacred sites, the temple continues to draw the devoted.
