Hitain is a sub-temple (tatchu) of Sennyuji, located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. Belonging to the Shingon Sennyuji sect, it enshrines Amida Nyorai as its principal image. The temple is the sixth stop on the Izuzan Shichifukujin pilgrimage circuit, dedicated to Bishamonten. The name 'Hiden' carries the Buddhist meaning of compassionate relief for those in suffering. As a sacred site where the spirit of mercy has long resided, it has drawn those seeking solace. Visitors to its serene precincts can still feel the warmth of compassion that permeates this holy ground.
