History

Byakko

Hikawa Shrine in Honcho, Nakano, Tokyo, has served as the guardian deity of the former Hongo Village since the Muromachi period. Enshrining Susanoo no Mikoto, a deity revered in the Hikawa faith tradition of Musashi Province, the shrine has long been visited for protection against epidemics, misfortune, and for fostering good relationships. During the Edo period, it was an important center of village life where prayers for bountiful harvests were offered. It continues to be cherished as a local guardian to this day.
