History

Byakko

Shouin Jinja is dedicated to Yoshida Shouin, an educator and thinker of the late Edo period. Founded in 1882, it honors the achievements of Shouin Sensei, who educated many patriots at the Shokasonjuku academy he founded, and is deeply revered as a kami of learning. Shouin Sensei taught "unity of knowledge and action," emphasizing the importance of putting learning into practice. Therefore, many visitors seek not only academic achievement but also human development and moral improvement. The grounds contain historical sites connected to Shouin Sensei, allowing visitors to feel the passionate spirit of the patriots of the late Edo period.
