History

Byakko

Toranomon Kotohira Gū was established in the early Edo period by enshrining a divided spirit from Sanuki Kotohira Gū. In 1660, Kyogoku Takakazu, the lord of the Marugame Domain in Sanuki, enshrined the divided spirit of Sanuki Kotohira Gū at this location. It has been venerated by Edo merchants and sailors as a deity of maritime safety and business prosperity. Today, surrounded by high-rise buildings, it is affectionately known as "Toranomon's Konpira-san" and serves as a spiritual support for businesspeople and nearby workers. On the tenth day of each month, many worshippers visit to pray for business prosperity and improved fortune in their work. It is cherished as a sacred space within the city.
