Jissōzan Shōkaku-ji is an ancient Nichiren Buddhist temple located in Nakameguro, Tokyo. Founded in the Genna 5 (1619) era with Misawa Hatsuko as patron and Priest Hōsen-in Nichiei as founding abbot, it belongs to the Nichiren sect with Minobu-san Kuon-ji as its former head temple. The temple enshrines a statue of Saint Nichiren to which Shogun Tokugawa Ienari had devoted himself within Edo Castle, giving the temple a deep connection to the Tokugawa shogunate. It is believed to bestow blessings including fulfillment of wishes, protection from evil, household safety, and ancestral memorial services. Today it continues to serve as a spiritual refuge for many visitors.
