History

Byakko

Koyasu Inari-jinja in Kami-ikebukuro, Toshima, Tokyo has been venerated at this location since before the Tensho era (1573–1591), serving as the local tutelary shrine. In 1715, during an epidemic, the shrine became known for remarkable divine protection — many children were saved through its power, giving rise to its name meaning 'safe birth Inari.' The principal deity is Ukemochi-no-kami (Houshoku-jin). The shrine was elevated to the status of village shrine (mura-sha) in 1925 and continues to be worshipped as a guardian of the local community.
