History

Byakko

Enshrined quietly in Kameido beside the Josai Police community safety center, this shrine venerates Mizuhanome no Kami, divine guardian of water. The area was historically low-lying marshland prone to flooding, and the shrine grew from the earnest prayers of those seeking protection from floods and reliable irrigation. It is administered by the neighboring Kameido Katori Shrine, where goshuin stamps can also be obtained. Kameido Suijin Station takes its name from this shrine, preserving the memory of the water deity in the city landscape.
