Zenrinji Eikando is renowned as Kyoto's premier sanctuary for autumn maple viewing, a temple of distinctive artistic and spiritual significance. Founded by Eikan Shonin, its principal Amitabha image is celebrated for its rare depiction of the Buddha turning back to regard the faithful. Since its founding in the seventh year of Jogan over a thousand years ago, autumn transforms the temple into a Pure Land paradise, with crimson leaves adorning every garden. The melodious recitation of nembutsu mingles with the gentle rustle of crimson foliage, guiding all visitors to an exquisite realm of spiritual beauty. As Kyoto's most emblematic sanctuary, it continues to radiate light and sublime color for all who seek refuge.
