History

Byakko

Motonojumi Jinja in Nagato City has become nationally famous as a spectacular shrine with 123 vermillion torii gates strung together against the backdrop of the beautiful Japan Sea. Founded in the 1950s following a white fox's oracle, it is a relatively new shrine yet of genuine spiritual potency. The succession of vermillion torii gates standing upon sheer cliffs is truly breathtaking in beauty, attracting many international visitors and becoming one of Yamaguchi Prefecture's premier tourist destinations. It is said that casting coins into the great torii gate standing six meters high will grant one's wishes, and many attempt this challenge.
