History

Byakko

According to tradition, this shrine was founded in the Nara period by Tachibana no Morobe to console the spirit of his mother, Tachibana no Michiyo—truly a shrine filled with maternal love. It enshrines the divine couple Saketoke-no-kami and Saketokeko-no-kami. Particularly renowned as the deity of safe childbirth and conception, it has the distinction of being visited by women of the imperial family and nobility during the Heian period. The shrine grounds are planted with beautiful plum blossoms, which bloom splendidly in spring to comfort the hearts of visitors.
