History

Byakko

Suginomori Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded to pacify the rebellion of Taira no Masakado during the Heian period. During the Edo period, it flourished as the protective deity of the merchant district of Nihonbashi, and is particularly counted among "Edo's Three Sacred Groves," a shrine of distinguished lineage. Located in the Nihonbashi area that developed as a commercial center, it has collected the deep faith of Edo merchants as a deity of business prosperity. Within the shrine grounds stands a monument to the birthplace of the fortune lottery (the predecessor of modern lotteries), and it is also cherished for its benefits of enhanced fortune luck. Even today, numerous businessmen and shop owners visit to pray for commercial success, making it a protective deity of commerce.
