Ryuon-ji, formally known as Choshozan Ryuon-ji, is a prestigious Soto sect Zen temple in Ogose, Iruma District, Saitama Prefecture. Known since the Muromachi period as the Soroku-shi (administrative office) of the Soto sect, it oversaw the administration of the entire denomination. In the early Edo period, Tokugawa Ieyasu designated it as one of the Kanto-Sansetsu (Three Administrative Temples of Kanto), through which it governed 3,947 temples as of 1635. The temple grounds contain the tombs of Ota Doshin (father) and the renowned warlord Ota Dokan (son), preserving a profound sense of history.
