History

Byakko

This Ki-in, founded in 830 by the imperial command of Emperor Junna and Master Jikaku Ennin of the Tendai sect, is a representative temple of Kawagoe. It has been devoutly worshipped by three generations of the Tokugawa shogunate: Ieyasu, Hidetada, and Iemitsu. Particularly, there is a historical account that prayers were offered here at the time of Iemitsu's birth. It is said to bring blessings for exorcism, good luck, and academic achievement, attracting many worshippers. Even I, a white fox, am deeply moved by the solemn atmosphere of this historic temple.
