Muryokoji temple in Wakayama City bears the mountain name Satomiyasan and belongs to the Jodo sect of Pure Land Buddhism. The principal image is Amida Nyorai (Amitabha Buddha). The temple is widely known as the 'temple of the stone head Buddha,' housing a striking large stone image depicting only the head of Buddha. It also enshrines the great honorific memorial tower of the Zen master Tokumon Shonin. The temple has long served as a center of Jodo faith in the Kishu region, and its spiritual flame continues to offer solace to all who visit.
