Aoshima Jinja is beloved by many as a representative shrine of Miyazaki. It is enshrined on the mystical island of Aoshima floating in the blue sea, where it enshrines Hikohohodemine no Mikoto and Toyotama Hime no Mikoto. Known as the setting of the mythological tale of the Sea God's Palace involving the stories of Yamasachihiko and Umisachihiko, it is particularly famous for its benefits of matchmaking. The fantastical atmosphere created by the strange rocks called 'Oni no Sentakuita' surrounding Aoshima and the subtropical plant vegetation covering the entire island evokes the very world of mythology. It is Miyazaki's foremost power spot, with many worshippers visiting to pray for the fulfillment of romantic love.
