Udo Jingu is a Shinto shrine located on a precipitous cliff along the coast of Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and is a rare "descent shrine" found throughout Japan. The main hall sits within a cave facing the sea, and its mystical location has captivated many visitors. The primary deity enshrined is Hikohiko Nagisatakeu Umisakizukumo Kuzuki Fukaiaezukonofomi, revered since ancient times as a deity of safe childbirth, child-rearing, and marital harmony. Particularly known for the unique "fortune ball toss" method of worship, where throwing fortune balls into the stone turtle's box is said to grant wishes. As a sacred site connected to Hyuga mythology, it is Miyazaki's representative shrine of proven spiritual efficacy.
