About
History
Takachiho Jinja is a shrine with respectable origins situated in Takachiho, the homeland of Japanese mythology. It is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Suinin, approximately 1,900 years ago, and enshrines Takachiho Kōjin and the ten great deities. According to mythology, when Amaterasu Ōmikami withdrew to the heavenly rock cave, the eight million gods performed kagura at this location—truly the stage of mythology. The Husband and Wife Cedars are particularly famous for their matchmaking benefits; when couples and lovers walk around them hand-in-hand three times, they are said to be blessed with good relations. The Takachiho Kagura, presented every evening, is a precious cultural inheritance transmitting ancient rituals to the present day. At this sacred land where mythology breathes, one can experience profound emotion.

Tips
Visit Notes
