Tenanyukohara Miya is a mystical sacred site located in the Iwato area of Takachiho. It is said to be the very stage of Japanese mythology where, when Amaterasu Ōmikami hid herself in the rock cave, the eight million Kami gathered to consult. Countless stones are stacked in the riverbed, with stone pagodas built up by worshippers with their wishes standing in rows. A shrine building exists within the cave, enveloped in a mystical atmosphere, making it an exceptionally special place. It is a precious sacred site where one can feel the origins of Japanese mythology.
