Murayama Sengen Jinja is an ancient shrine boasting a history of over a thousand years as a sacred site of Mount Fuji faith. It is said to have been founded in the late Heian period and has served as the starting point for pilgrimages to Mount Fuji, attracting many mountain ascetics and believers. This shrine is the place where one can feel most directly the spiritual power of Mount Fuji as a sacred peak. It enshrines Konohanasakuya-hime and has bestowed upon people the blessings and protection of the mountain deity. During the Edo period, believers of the Fuji cult came seeking this shrine, and even today many people visit to seek the blessings of the sacred mountain.
