History

Byakko

Shinfukuji is a Soto Zen temple on Mount Otana in Chichibu, Saitama, and serves as the second pilgrimage site of the Chichibu 34 Kannon pilgrimage. The main devotional song praises the deep vows like the valley stream below the great shelf. After a fire in 1860 destroyed the large temple complex, only the Kannon Hall now stands on the hilltop, and the temple is unmanned — sutra copying and goshuin stamps are handled at Komyoji Temple at the foot of the hill. The site is designated as a local historic landmark.
